Back-end Development

Developing data-driven solutions using a server-side connection to a backend database or API.

Back-end or server-side development is the practice of creating a connection to a data source such as a database or an API that has been defined to serve data or information.

Southpoint spent many years writing websites for customers using the PHP programming language in conjunction with open-source database products such as MySQL.

In more recent times we have used RESTful data API services to query and work with data that is returned in JSON (JavaScript Object Notation). This is now the most common way for developers to work with assets within Microsoft products such as Office 365 or SharePoint.

We have worked in high security environments using the REST API’s provided by applications within a customers domain to successfully deliver data-driven projects and solutions. These include, data-visualisation, the practice of applying charts and graphs to sets of data, data retrieval and manipulation, retrieving data, manipulating it and saving it back to the source where it came from.
